The first dance lasts 2-3 minutes, but it's the moment you'll watch again and again for the next 50 years. It's worth planning carefully. Here are 7 tried-and-tested ideas from weddings we did in Cyprus this year.
1. "Dancing on the clouds" with low fog
The most requested effect right now. A cloud of cold dry-ice mist hugs the floor around your feet, creating the illusion that you're dancing on clouds. Odorless, no moisture on the dress, and stunning in photos shot from above.
2. Cold sparks as a "roof" above the couple
Instead of a walkway, we position the machines high up so the sparks fall like rain around the entire dance floor — ideal for the final chorus of your song.
3. Combine: fog below, sparks above
The most popular combo this year. It creates a complete "theatrical" set — a dark floor with mist, bright sparks from above, and you at the center.
4. A spotlight instead of general lighting
Ask your DJ or lighting operator to cut the general lights and keep just a spotlight on you — it makes a huge difference on video and helps the cold sparks read more vividly.
5. A surprise choreography with parents
A short, pre-planned group dance that kicks in after the first minute — works especially well when combined with cold sparks at the peak.
6. Shoot it from above
If your photographer/videographer has a drone or an elevated shot, low fog looks dramatically different from above — like you're standing inside a cloud.
7. Keep it short and repeat it
The effects don't need to run the whole dance — 30-45 seconds at the peak has more impact than continuous effect. Many couples repeat it during the closing dance at the end of the night too.
The best effect is the one your guests remember — not the one that lasts longest.
